Gurus are like Leprechauns

They don’t really exist (Do they?)

but legend has it that if you could catch one

they could lead you to a pot of gold……..Gord Young

Prayer for Nick

Posted by: admin   in The Way of the Nick

Dear God.

Take this sweet soul into your loving arms.
Love him as we have loved him.

We give him back to you as you gave him to us.
Innocent and full of love and forgiveness.
Free of selfishness, greed or envy.

And patience! As he would stand and allow the cat
to select the choice morsels from his bowl before he would eat.

Take away now his pain and let him enjoy his heavenly home.
Let him bound through the fields and splash in clear waters
like he did as a puppy.

Thank you for the time we had with him.

He loved us, as you love us, unconditionally.

It was hard to watch him get old and struggle to walk.
Though he never complained, and gave his best to show
his excitement when Jay came home to visit him or if Lisa
had been away too long.

Even as the vet gave him his injection his little heart would
not stop when others may have.

He was our little trooper and his spirit will always be with us.
Tears are on my cheeks as I type this, for I will miss him.

Thank you Lord

Guess I’ve Always Been a Dreamer

   Posted by: admin   in Uncategorized

Listen while you read this post… Gord’s Gold

Was just reading some old elementary report cards as I’m packing up to move to a new city.

I never did very well in school except perhaps in math or subjects that I could figure things out for myself. Got lots of teachers comments about under-achieving and daydreaming.

Guess I didn’t fit into their mold very well.

I now love studying history and I am devoted to life long learning.

The subjects that never interested me when presented by boring teachers in boring fashion now fascinate me when presented on the History channel with passion and the human element expressed.

I’ll Miss My Big Brother Colin

   Posted by: admin   in Uncategorized

I’m already missing my big bro.

He passed from this world Saturday, December 6th, 2008

A life long Leafs fan, it is ironic that he passed while the Leafs were playing on the Saturday “Hockey Night in Canada” broadcast.

On my Facebook profile I have long since listed Hockey Night in Canada as my favorite TV show…it will have an even more special meaning now.

I will have many happy memories that cause me to smile at the many funny lines and great wit. Only sad that there will be no new ones. I pray you have found peace.

YOUNG, Colin Alexander - In loving memory of Colin Alexander Young 72 years, who passed away Saturday, December 6th, 2008 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital-St. Joseph Health Center. Born in Sudbury, Colin taught with the Rainbow School Board for 30 years, at Nickel District Secondary School and he retired from Confederation Secondary School. He was a skilled and caring educator. Colin introduced the 30 Hour Famine at Confederation in 1990. This unique learning experience has helped feed hungry children around the world.

Last night on the CoasttoCoastam.com radio program…

“author and lecturer David Icke stirred up controversy with his contention that President-Elect Obama is a salesman for the Illuminati, controlled by advisors such as Zbigniew Brzezinski. The election has been “a massive mind manipulation of the American psyche,” with Obama serving as a blank screen that people can project what they want to see, he suggested.”

Down With Time (change)

Posted by: admin   in Gold Posts

If “time is a dimension” and “all time exists now” then

…Why the hell do we change the clocks twice a year?

This practice is upsetting to most people.

Most folks dang well don’t like it. At least nobody I have asked.

And I’ve noticed the pets don’t much like it either.

Actually Nick (the dog) takes a very philosophical and laid back approach but

Frank (the cat) gets a bit antsy around dinner time for a few days.

Like, who cares what time the clocks say it is?

Does anybody really know what time it is? (heh-couldn’t resist)

I’m pretty sure the Gurus (and Leprechauns) don’t care.

People who work at home, on their own schedules don’t care.

Unemployed folks certainly don’t care. (Although I have heard some relishing the extra hour of sleep they will gain in the fall)

Farmers don’t care, they go by the sun.

And the people with jobs? They mostly just hate it.

There are studies that prove that the change of routine causes more accidents and mistakes in the workplace and on the roads.

Not to mention the health factors. (ie. lost sleep = more stress)

I don’t wear a watch and haven’t for a long time, just on principles.

Heck! Don’t need to, there’s always someone telling me what time it is.

Daylight savings time? HELLO!

I submit: The hours of daylight will remain the same regardless of how much we fiddle with the clocks.

The good folks in Saskatchewan, don’t change the clocks and get themselves all upset twice a year. (geez it’s flat out there) (and cold)

So I say we scrap this silly idea of changing the clocks twice each year!

Who’s with me eh?

Worlds Richest Man

Warren Edward Buffet

Mr. Buffett was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on August 30, 1930. His family operated a grocery store in Omaha for 100 years (1869-1969). His father ran an investment firm and also served as a member of Congress for four years.

Mr. Buffett is chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., a holding company controlled by him since 1965. Berkshire Hathaway has 76 operating businesses, with its largest source of earnings arising from property-casualty insurance and reinsurance. It also owned common stocks with a value of $75 billion at yearend 2007.

Mr. Buffett started out as an investment salesman and securities analyst, and early in his career, he created his own investment partnership. If an investor had put $10,000 in Buffett Partnership Ltd. when it was formed in 1956 and continued that investment in Berkshire Hathaway, he would now have shares worth about $650 million.

Advancing in The way of the Nick

Posted by: admin   in The Way of the Nick

Nick is a wise old dog of few words who chooses to lead by example.

Today I observed (and learned) as Nick patiently watched the cat select the choice morsels from his bowl.

Most younger dogs might have pushed the cat aside and begun devouring the food hungrily as if it were the last.

But Nick, in his wisdom, knew that the cat would not eat all of the food and that after a few bites he would walk away feeling satisfied and that there would plenty left to fill his own hunger.

You see…Nick does not think from a shortage mentality. He knows that the universe has provided abundance and more than we will ever need.

As humans we can learn much from “The Way of the Nick”

The Way of the Nick

Posted by: admin   in The Way of the Nick

The following came to me in an instant one evening just after my son had come home for a visit.

Often thoughts come to us and if we do not write them down immediately, soon we have forgotten and they have passed.

This time however, I began to type the words as I thought them and I sent the result, by email, without editing, to my son.

My son loved it and I hope you will too.

Nick is our dog (his dog)

What can we learn from the way of the Nick?

A Nick does not pass judgement.

A true Nick forgives, even one who has lopped off his ear.

(Oops. my son accidently nicked his ear while trimming)

Nick is tolerant of others even though they would attack him for no reason.

(the cat)

Nick protects with his life those that he loves most.

Nick barks at raccoons but intends them no harm.

(Last night)

A true follower of the “way of the Nick” does not hold on to prejudices

nor hold grudges and forgives past indiscretions.

Nick is surely what we must strive to be.

———————————————

Here is the reply that I received from my son.

“This is, undoubtedly, my favourite email of all time, dad. I think I want to print it out and frame it. Thanks for a good laugh.”

“The way of the Nick, however, is challenging, but he is a wise old sage.”

“How’s his ear, by the way? I still feel awful about that!”
